Shared privacy

A thing I really like about LJ is the shared privacy with strangers, people one has never met. In a sense, I like it that it makes a new kind of privacy possible. Not a restricted public world, and not a world of complete private solitude, which are the two main domains of human experience. But a kind of shared solitude. Writing for yourself, but in a way that other people, whom mainly you don't know more about than that they're writing for themselves too, can read what you're saying as you can what they are. I tend not to post much about my life on LJ, but I will say things I might not have occasion to say to anyone in real life. So, shared introversion. Privacy overheard. (Which is I guess the complete opposite of FaceBook.)
