Epic Shit On The Internet

Inaugural Post

Welcome to the sister community of our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1609208522720053/

If you've been missing LJ, and want to do something instead of just complaining about it on Facebook, we're here and we're doing something about it.

Consider this community an ongoing Friending Frenzy™ -- here you will find active LJers who want new friends and are going to fill up your friends feed with actual entries of substance and not just angry political memes and pictures of cats.

Only one rule - be nice or be gone. Anyone stirring shit will be made to lick the spoon.

Second Chance Idol

Want to be motivated to write more?

Want to make more friends who are active on Livejournal?

LJ Idol, Livejournal's premiere writing competition/reality show/roller coaster event had already started our 10th season when the Revival happened.

Which means a lot of people missed their shot to sign up!

Fortunately, there is "Second Chance Idol", another chance to get it right! If you were already eliminated, or if you are someone who missed out on signing up the first time around, that's why Second Chance exists!

It's a chance to earn your way into the main competition (already in progress)

The Sign-Up Sheet is here: http://therealljidol.livejournal.com/981280.html

Hope to see you there!

.this is me i think.

Personal:

Name: i respond by the name of møn

Gender: i don't really care (although it's funny when people are really convinced i'm a guy)

Age: 18

Location: Argentina

Personality Type: INFP

Pets: cute little turtle

Sexual Orientation: i don't like to be weighed down by a tag... so i'm not lesbian, not bi, not pan; but i do like girls

Music: post-punk pop-punk, emo, metalcore, hardcore, alternative, industrial metal, 2000's music

Season: always been summer but now i've grown and i think i'm more of a hey-it's-winter-we-should-cuddle type of person?

Interests: i like the smell before rain. friends who make me laugh my head off but know how to hold deep conversations. coffee, music, art. i like poetry and constellations. i like ties and plaid skirts. i like destroying things. i like to think. i like metaphors. i like to speak in prose.

Food: anything mom cooks... and peanut butter

You Can Also Find Me On: i post my comics and drawings at https://www.facebook.com/mondraws and https://another-reject.deviantart.com

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: i'm stuck in 2007. my whole life is an embarrassing middle school emo phase. i hate the way i write or draw. i love the way i write or draw. i'm a hopeless romantic.

Top 5 fandoms: well, for starters, five is just too much for me. i'm only part of the mcrmy. and, y'know, i still read a lot of fan fiction (sorry!). also, huge fan of blink-182 and all-time fan of the all-american rejects.

LJ:

I mostly post about: my thoughts and philosophies, and a little bit of angsty teenager prose here and there.

My last three LJ posts were about: prose and thoughts i was having while struggling with senior year.

How often do you post? about once a month. depends on how clear the noise in my head is.

How about commenting? i don't tend to comment because first of all, i don't have any LJ friends. second of all, when i have intentions of commenting, the post is about five years old so i don't bother. but i will comment if the post is interesting and recent.

Don't add me if: you're racist, homophobic, xenophobic, and anything that ends with phobic (okay, arachnophobics are acceptable). also, don't bother adding if you leave nasty comments ew.

(add me if you're a part of the mcrmy)

FAVORITES
BOOKS: Oh god. Right now I'm reading Laurie Penny's Unspeakable Things and it's blowing my mind so that's definitely up there. The Holy Machine by chris Beckett. The Harry Potter Series, even though I've never read them all the way through. Let the Right One In but that Swedish author with a long name. I dunno, I'm getting back into reading so I'm still figuring out what makes it to the top of my "most read" list.
FOOD(S): Cheesecake. Chocolate. Miso soup. Bibimbap. Cheese. Most sweets. Most baked things. Anything with sweet potato. Taco Tuesday at the Revenence Hotel in my town.
INTEREST(S): VJing, cyberpunk, artificial intelligence, anarcha-feminism, asking questions, making art, exploring new ideas.
MUSIC: I used to be the kind of person who totally defines themselves by their taste in music, but these days it's mostly just a grab-bag of weird shit. I like breakcore, trip-hop, noise, electro-punk, anything with cool synthesisers, riot grrrl, John Murphy, the Birthday Massacre, crazy shit like Die Antwoord and Little Big, southern gothic, a lot of female country artists from Dolly Parton to the Dixie Chicks. Lots of miscellaneous shit.
SEASON: Oh god don't make me choose. I think spring would have to be my favourite, all the flowers and the rain and it's not sticky and gross and hot yet.

LJ
I POST: Irregularly but with great enthusiasm.
I POST ABOUT: My life, things I've been thinking about, deconstructing ideas and stuff I've been taught, mental illness, movies, music festivals, all the weird shit that I do on a daily basis.
I COMMENT: When I feel like I have something to contribute. Honestly, I'd like to comment a lot more than I do, but I have so much to say I can never get it all down. I often start to write something, decide I wanna think about it for a while, then forget about it completely.
I LIKE FRIENDS WHO: Write about ideas, feelings, experiences, use their writing to explore themselves as a person and connect on a deeper level.
THE LAST 3 POSTS I MADE WERE ABOUT: My continuing battle to figure out how much impact I want social media to have on my life, changing my name vs using a stage name, a dude I'm lovesick over.
DON'T ADD ME IF: You're a neo-nazi, don't believe non-binary genders are real, don't like a lot of swearing, or are just generally uninteresting.

A GIF TO DESCRIBE HOW YOUR DAY HAS BEEN TODAY SO FAR: Ugh please no more gifs. Buzzfeed has ruined them for me.

I just realized I never posted

Name: Under flock.

Age: 31.

Location: Central Maryland, US.

Tumblr/Goodreads/IG/etc: I'm authorbynight on tumblr, but I've posted twice in a span of one or two years. You can add me on DW, though! I go by this username there.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I often lament that I'm too nerdy for the real world, but not geeky enough for the internet. I love writing, and much of my LJ use is about improving it as much as anything else. I'm passionate about many things but also believe in listening to what other people have to say. I'm an old soul, yet young at heart at the same time.

Top 5 fandoms: Harry Potter, Parks and Recreation, Buffyverse, Firefly, and um.... that's pretty much it? I guess you could throw in the Fantastic Beasts movie as a subset of Harry Potter.

I mostly post about... Meta/discussion posts and reviews, snark about various things, social commentary and musings, social media commentary and musings (including my blog-within-a-blog), writing. I talk about my family and work a bit, too. But I'm not a huge day-to-day person.

My last three LJ posts were about... My thoughts on education (mostly unrelated to recent events in the US, although I did acknowledge the timing), a poem and how I don't actually know how to write poetry, and asking if anyone knows how to make a Parks and Rec fanvid.

How often do you post? How about commenting? I post a few times a week. Depending on the week, sometimes daily. As far as commenting goes, I can't say I've ever taken a tally, but I try to comment. I WILL say that I'm not so good at commenting on day-to-day bullet posts. I don't mind them, I just don't know what to say to them. My comments ARE often longer, though. Just as a warning.

Hello

Name: Miriam

Age: Somewhere between 50 and death

Location: Northern Virginia

Tumblr/Goodreads/IG/etc: I use facebook, but limit my friends list to people with whom I have an actual, usually real-life, connection. I’m also on ravelry and flyertalk and some other less public places.

Snapchat: No

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I am alpha technodiva in a group that deals with satellites. I spend my spare time on storytelling and assorted fiber crafts (e.g. knitting, crocheting, nalbinding). I also travel and go to the theatre and inflict atrocious puns on anyone who will sit still long enough to listen.

Top 5 fandoms: I am an ardent Red Sox fan, who refers to the New York Yankees as the source of all evil in the universe. The only TV show I was ever much of a fangirl about was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I am also hopelessly geeky about musicals.

I mostly post about... travel, genealogy, theatre, snacks

My last three LJ posts were about... 1) A trip to New York, following a business trip to the West Coast, 2) A graze snack box, 3) my vacation in Nicaragua

How often do you post? How about commenting? I post roughly once or twice a week. I comment when I have something to say.

A GIF to describe how your day has been today so far: I don’t care for GIFs.

Hi potential new pals!

Hey! I've been meaning to do this for a while! I've been on lj since 2001 and always happy to get some new active friends.

Name: Raye
Age: 30 and a half
Location: Austin, Tx.

Tumblr/Goodreads/IG, etc:? I have an instagram. https://www.instagram.com/rayefrenzy/

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I'm really bad at these things because talking about yourself is hard. I am sentimental and complex. I love music and I love people. Very passionate about anarchism/leftist politics. No room in my life for bigots or transphobes.

Top 5 fandoms: So, I don't really do fandom. I don't write fan-fiction or anything. But I like pokemon, wrestling [mainly WWE/NXT], Steven Universe, Metroid, Sailor Moon, etc etc. I'd say the only things I actively post about is wrestling and maybe occasionally pokemon.

Is punk rock a fandom? can we MAKE it a fandom? hahaha.

I mostly post about: mostly my day to day life stuff. thoughts. worries. nothing extraordinary, i treat lj like my real journal. it can be occasionally self-centered or selfish.

My last three LJ posts were about: politics, what i did that week, what i did that week. My lj is only about half friends only, so you can go to my lj right now and check out what's there.

How often do you post? How about commenting: I post about once a week. Sometimes twice, but thats only if i'm lucky or have something I really wanna get off my chest. I only comment if I have something to say, but I promise I read {or occasionally click the *heart* button}

Always interested in making new friends

Hi all. I did not come to this community via the Facebook group as I am not on Facebook -- saw it listed on the main LJ page a few weeks back and decided to join.

Name: I prefer to not use my real name on the public side of the internet. However, Siobhan is the gaelic version of my real name.
Age: 53
Location: Canada (more precisely, Toronto).

Tumblr/Goodreads/IG, etc:? I am on Twitter (@procedurepols), but it's not a personal account -- follow it only if you are really interested in Westminster parliaments and politics (UK, Canada, AUS and NZ primarily). I did create a Goodreads account a few years ago and have since completely ignored it. I was briefly on FB but hated it and deleted my account over 3 years ago. I have a separate wordpress blog that I use to write about parliamentary procedure and related matters. So that's it.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: Married to a younger man, Table Research Clerk for the provincial Assembly, two pet degus, like to cook, read, try to keep fit, love, love, love my job, find it sad that that what I do bores the pants of pretty much everyone else because parliamentary procedure is, quite frankly THE BEST thing on the planet. I am most likely one of those "elites" everyone keeps warning us about. Atheist, no kids, slightly aspergic, sarcastic and definitely an introvert.

Top 5 fandoms: I always thought "fandom" simply meant liking a show, and then discovered it was a whole lot more than that. I don't do fandoms. I do have a number of TV shows that I really enjoy and will happily discuss, but, as a general rule, I don't do/read fanfic, make gifs, get all into the actors and all that sort of thing. Some of my current fave shows that I will happily discuss with others are: The Expanse, Outlander, Vikings, Black Sails, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Star Trek (all of them, even Enterprise), The Fall, Unforgotten, Silent Witness, The Last Kingdom, Designated Survivor and a bunch of others. I quite like TV, not much into movies.

That said, I guess I do have one real fandom -- parliamentary procedure. I totally fangirl over UK House of Commons Speaker John Bercow.

I mostly post about... Just the goings-on in my life -- work, personal, etc. I don't tend to discuss politics much because my job requires me to be totally neutral. I'd talk about TV shows more, but don't seem to have any current friends who share the same interests in that area. Would love to connect with other fans of any of the shows listed above. I am not exciting. You have been warned.

My last three LJ posts were about... The degus (and a few other bits); a link to a really interesting (IMO) article I found on Twitter; and the latest installment of the utter madness that is apartment hunting in Toronto.

How often do you post? How about commenting? Posting: I would say that I post at the very minimum of once a week. More often, I post daily, or at least every other day, and some days I may post more than once in a single day. Then occasionally, I won't post anything for 10 days or so. I'm a researcher, so my work means I do a lot of writing, and sometimes I just don't have the energy to post on LJ. The vast majority of my posts are F-locked, so if you go over to check me out, you won't see much. However, I have started doing some public posts to track what books I read (I know that's what Goodreads is for, but I can't be arsed to use that site at all). I never abandoned LJ, so I don't have any month-long or year-long gaps with little to no posting. I also have a mirror account on Dreamwidth just in case LJ gets problematic now that it's totally Russian and on Russian servers.

Commenting is a whole other kettle of fish. I read LJ daily, and usually check in several times a day in the hopes that someone has posted something. However, I comment only if I have something to add. And when it comes to new people, I might go weeks, maybe months before I start commenting regularly because it takes me time to get a sense of you, understand the people in your life, what's going on, etc., especially if you have some complicated, long-running family or other dynamics happening. I'm like that in real life too -- I don't talk much unless I have something valuable to contribute, and prefer to listen when new people are around until I get a proper feel for them. I don't do small talk (as mentioned above, I'm on the ASD scale -- Aspergers). So while I may not say much, especially at first, please do know that I am reading everything you post.

A GIF to describe how your day has been today so far: I don't do gifs. In fact, I really effin' hate most of them. Just sayin'.

Other: As I said, my LJ is mostly friends-locked, so just go ahead and add me if you want to see what I'm like. I will grant you access and reciprocate. If we don't click, just unfriend me -- I won't take it personally. I mostly keep my LJ for my own sake. It's nice if others are interested in my life, but not mandatory!
no excuses

I'm lookin' for a revival.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less
I am a community theater actress & techie, it is my passion. I am a complete Disney-holic & an annual passholder for WDW. I am a wife, mother of four & a part-time retail slave at a uniform shop. I am a new-agey sort of Christian (I'm still figuring that out!) & I am liberal. I pretty much only listen to musicals.

Top 5 fandoms
In no particular order; Star Wars (all), Star Trek (all), Criminal Minds, Hamilton, Harry Potter,
(For the record I have a TON more, 5 wasn't nearly enough!)

I mostly post about
My life, my problems, things I do, shows I'm in, marriage, kids, random things. Anything that tickles my fancy. I kind of started this one because I wanted a place to be able to be honest & free with my feelings.

My last three LJ posts
1. A friend's only post.
2. A random update about my life.
3. Random update about my life.

How often do you post? How about commenting?
I'm attempting to post every other day if I can. I only comment on people if I have something to say or if they ask a question. I don't just comment for the sake of doing it. Kinda like how I post.
